Co-Chief Executive Officer

Currently on assignment from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL). Dr. Castillo is a globally recognized expert in tritium technology and nuclear innovation, with over 18 years of experience in the nuclear industry. He has led transformative projects at CNL, including large capital initiatives related to tritium technology and infrastructure, as well as cutting-edge R&D in tritium for fusion technology.

Dr. Castillo has been instrumental in the maturation of Ac-225 production technology, advancing it from laboratory research to a joint venture launch. At CNL, prior to joining FFC as Co-CEO, he directed the R&D activities of the Hydrogen and Tritium Technologies Directorate, aligning research with government stakeholder needs and market trends, leveraging CNL’s extensive expertise and creating partnerships at both national and international levels.

Dr. Castillo’s expertise spans hydrogen production, recombination, heavy water and tritium management, chemistry, and process engineering. Dr. Castillo earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from McGill University and has completed executive leadership programs at Oxford University and McGill University. His leadership ensures the integration of CNL’s expertise Senior Technical Personnel.

Yuhei Nozoe

Co-Chief Executive Officer

On assignment from his role as Head of Global Plant Technology Business at Kyoto Fusioneering, Yuhei is an accomplished business leader specializing in fusion energy innovation and global market development. Yuhei brings over a decade of Senior Business Personnel experience in strategic planning, intellectual property management, and supply chain optimization.

At KF, he spearheaded transformative initiatives such as the UNITY (Unique Integrated Testing Facility) projects, providing senior leadership in contract management and strategic negotiations. Yuhei’s expertise in business development, international partnerships, and multi-national operations has driven long-lasting collaborations across Europe, Japan, and North America.

Prior to his tenure at Kyoto Fusioneering, Yuhei held leadership roles at Mitsui & Co., where he led M&A activities and developed businesses spanning sectors such as oil and gas, chemicals, and industrial IT, including AI, optimization, and digital twin technologies. He later established and operated an industrial IT startup as an intrapreneur and provided consultancy services to foster growth for SMBs and startups.

Yuhei holds an MBA from IE Business School in Spain, and his diverse background in business development, innovation strategy, and cross-border operations positions him as a key driver of FFC’s success in advancing fusion energy solutions.

Christian Day

Chief Technical Officer
Ph.D. in Process Engineering from University of Karlsruhe, Germany. Nearly three decades at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany in all areas of tritium, fueling and vacuum technologies for ITER and other fusion devices. Christian developed the concept of Direct Internal Recycling to arrive at an attractive reactor scale fuel cycle architecture. Responsible for the EUROfusion fuel cycle program for 10 years.

Sam Suppiah

Chief Scientist
Dr. Suppiah, with over 40 years’ expertise, drives hydrogen and tritium technology advancements at CNL. Formerly with the British Gas Corporation, he’s an expert in Tritium Technologies, Catalysis, and Energy Storage. He is Canada’s delegate for the GEN IV VHTR Hydrogen Production Board and a CHFCA board member. A regular at IAEA presentations, he holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK.

Matthew Cloutier

Chief Operating Officer
Matt Cloutier is the Chief Operating Officer for Fusion Fuel Cycles. Previously at Kyoto Fusioneering, Matt served as a Principal in the Business Development and Operations group, where he drove corporate strategy, business development, and operational excellence, focusing on new market entry into North America.

With a diverse background in engineering and management consulting, Matt has led numerous value-creation initiatives across a broad range of sectors and clients. His work has focused on strategy and M&A, supporting investment decisions through diligence and planning, and identifying and delivering post-transaction synergies primarily within the energy, resources, and industrials (ER&I) sector. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Calgary.

Prof. Satoshi Konishi co-founded Kyoto Fusionneering in 2019. With a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Satoshi brings four decades of expertise in R&D, specializing in fusion technology, advanced nuclear system design, and tritium engineering, including significant contributions to the ITER project. He holds dual roles as Chief Fusioner, overseeing technology development, strategic planning, and execution, and as CEO, a position he has held since 2023.

Sean Bovingdon is Vice President Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer of CNL, and is responsible for CNL’s finance, supply chain, information technology and other key business services functions.

A proven leader with 30 years of financial management experience, Sean is trusted as a senior executive in a variety of industries, including energy, consumer products, utilities and technology. He has a record of successfully building collaborative teams, mentoring future leaders, providing strategic direction focused on commercial growth and turnarounds, demonstrating positive leadership, and ensuring rigorous compliance with both provincial and Government of Canada regulatory bodies.

Kiyoshi Seko

Mr. Kiyoshi Seko joined Kyoto Fusioneering in April 2021 as an Executive Officer. Prior to joining KF, he worked for Mitsubishi Corporation for almost 10 years, where he was involved in business development and strategic investments, including for the establishment of overseas JVs and cross-border M&As. After obtaining his MBA, he worked for Coral Capital, a leading VC firm in Japan, where he made several investments – including one in Kyoto Fusioneering before joining the company – mainly in the deeptech area. Kiyoshi has an M.S in Mechanical Engineering from Kyoto University and an M.S in Applied Physics from University of Tokyo, as well as an MBA from IE Business School, Spain.
